Not really. There were a few reasons for this. One: when Pixelmator Pro came out, a significant number of people would not have been able to run it as the app is built using new technologies that require a relatively new Mac.
Two: Some of the changes might have been too drastic for a lot of people. For those two reasons and a few others , it made the most sense to release Pixelmator Pro as a brand new app. We have now removed Pixelmator Classic from App Store and will eventually stop updating it.
Anyone who has already bought it will be able to redownload it, of course — just like any other Mac app. You can download it here.

Yes, I'm on a mid Mac Pro Retina 16GB , but it meets the requirements and it's the same one I use almost daily for FCPx with lots of plugins and moving graphics while having Pixelmator not pro running, email, browser with multiple windows and have NO problems.
FCPx and Motion at the same time Logic Pro X - flawless. Yet, Pixelmator Pro for the simplest tasks without any other graphics app open causes the fans to go into overdrive and the app to lock up.
How can Pixelmator Pro running without FCPx be so unbelievable slow that using the rectangle selection tool on a single 3MB image cause frame drops? I completed the crop, switched to blur This is my constant experience with Pixelmator Pro. BTW, I do know about the Popclip issue. I've tried adding Pixelmator Pro to the exclusions list.
For the above example, I quit Popclip pro before launching. This is for both the non-bet and the current beta. Wed Nov 07, am Yep, every single update to the original Pixelmator since it was released on the Mac App Store in that's almost 8 years ago has been completely free. If you're being prompted to buy the app again, it usually means you're using a different Apple ID, you've changed your Apple ID region, or you've accidentally hidden the purchase.
